Top 10 2018 NFL Mock Draft
by Jaron Spor and Taylor Snowdon
The 2018 NFL draft is almost upon us. The Browns have the number one pick on their hands, coming off an historically bad 0-16 season. The favorite for that number one pick coming into the combine was USC QB, Sam Darnold. Was he able to hold on to the top spot?
After coming off outstanding combine performances from Wyoming QB, Josh Allen, Oklahoma QB, Baker Mayfield, and Penn State RB, Saquon Barkley really helped their draft stock. But were they able to over take Sam Darnold as the number one pick? This is our top 10 2018 NFL mock draft.
1. Cleveland Browns
Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State; History for running backs going number isn’t great but over the last couple of years running backs going in the top five have done pretty well. Turn on the tape, the dude is a stud, watch the combine, the dude is a stud, and from what I’ve heard he has killed the interviews as well. I do have some concerns with his vision which could be problematic but with no clear cut number one pick, the Cleveland Browns should take Saquon Barkley.
2. New York Giants
Quenton Nelson, OL, Notre Dame; I believe that if Saquon is available at this spot the Giants will definitely take him but if he is not, the Giants need o-line help. Eli Manning has been on his back the past couple of seasons. If the Giants do not make improvements to their offensive line via free agency or the draft it won’t matter who is taking snaps under center.
3. New York Jets (Via Indianapolis Colts)
Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA; Great trade for the Jets to move up and get the most natural thrower of the football in this class. The New York media spotlight might prove to be too much for him but if he can stay motivated then the Jets will be very happy with this pick.
4. Cleveland Browns (via Houston Texans)
Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma; This is where things get interesting. The reason I have Barkley going one is I believe the Browns are not sold on any of the QB’s in this draft. Of all of the QB’s I think they are most sold on Mayfield and believe they can get him at 4. Obviously the off the field stuff plays a factor but if he can stay out of trouble Baker has all of the tools to be the best QB in this draft and to be a Franchise QB. The Cleveland Browns need someone with his mentality to right the ship.
5. Denver Broncos
Sam Darnold, QB, USC; If the Browns pass on Darnold don’t be surprised if Denver tries to trade up to get him. Darnold is ranked as the number one QB in this class and if he can stay away from turnovers, the Broncos have their guy for the next 10-15 years.
6. Indianapolis Colts
Bradley Chubb, DE, NC State; Bradley Chubb is probably the best player in this draft but teams prioritize offensive weapons first typically. He has been on top of the Colts board from the beginning in my opinion and it would greatly help a team that ranked 31 out of 32 teams in sacks last season.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama; The best defensive back in the class that can play all over the field as a safety or a corner back. This will be a great addition to help with the Buccaneers defense.
8. Chicago Bears
Calvin Ridley, WR, Alabama; The best wide receiver in this class. Bears need to help their young QB out and give him some weapons.
9. San Francisco 49ers
Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State; 49ers need help on both sides of the ball. I think they would love to get an o-line here but with G Quenton Nelson already taken, I think they decide to help the defensive side of the ball and take a solid CB. Not sure if he is elite but he will be a solid pro for many years to come.
10. Oakland Raiders
Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia; The Butkus Award winner will be a great addition to a really poor defense. He is a stud and runs all over the field. Seemed like every time a tackle was made vs Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl or any other game all season, Roquan was in the area.
